#Frequently Asked Questions About Deployable Solar Power

What is deployable solar power?

Deployable solar power is a mobile, containerised solar system designed for temporary, remote, off-grid and infrastructure-constrained sites. The solar array is transported in a standard container, unfolded on site and can be retracted and moved when project requirements change.

How does a containerised solar power system work?

The system is delivered to site in a standard 20-foot High Cube container. It is positioned and prepared on site before the solar array is unfolded using an automated, motor-driven deployment system. Once deployed, it can be connected to the site’s energy system and controlled by remote control, operator panel or mobile app.

How quickly can deployable solar be installed?

Initial site set-up can be completed in approximately eight hours by a small crew, subject to site conditions and project requirements. Once commissioned, the solar array can be extended or retracted in approximately 25 minutes.

Can deployable solar be relocated between sites?

Yes. The system is designed to retract into its container format so it can be transported and redeployed as project locations or energy requirements change. Standard container logistics allow transport by truck, trailer, ship or other compatible container transport methods.

Can mobile solar power operate off-grid?

Yes. The system is designed for both on-grid and off-grid applications. The final electrical configuration is project-specific and will depend on the site’s energy demand, existing infrastructure and operating requirements.

Can deployable solar integrate with battery storage?

Yes. Deployable solar can be integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System, commonly referred to as BESS. The system is designed to be compatible with battery storage as part of a broader hybrid energy solution.

Can deployable solar work with diesel generators?

Yes. The system is diesel-hybrid compatible and can be integrated with diesel generation where required. This allows solar generation to form part of a site’s existing or planned energy mix.

Can deployable solar connect to grid power?

Yes. Deployable solar can be configured for on-grid or off-grid operation. Grid connection requirements are project-specific and must be designed around the relevant network, electrical and grid-code requirements.

How much power does the deployable solar system produce?

The current system has an approximate total DC capacity of 134 kWp and includes 200 bifacial photovoltaic modules. Final system configuration and component selection may vary depending on project requirements and regional availability.

How much space is required for a deployable solar system?

When fully deployed, the system requires an area of approximately 130 metres by 8 metres. Site access, terrain, slope, anchoring and available deployment space must be assessed before installation.

What site preparation is required for containerised solar?

The system is designed to require minimal site preparation. It can be deployed on surfaces including grass, soil, gravel, concrete, asphalt and sand, subject to an assessment of terrain conditions, slope, unevenness and anchoring requirements.

Is deployable solar suitable for temporary commercial sites?

Yes. Mobile solar is designed for temporary infrastructure, leased sites, changing project locations and operations where permanent solar infrastructure may not be suitable.

What industries can use deployable solar power?

Potential applications include mining and remote operations, construction and infrastructure, agriculture and regional operations, logistics and warehousing, emergency response, defence, temporary venues and other remote or grid-constrained sites.

How does deployable solar respond to high winds?

The system includes wind monitoring and can be configured for automatic or manual retraction when required. Operating conditions and retraction thresholds must be determined according to the project configuration and site conditions.

How does Sharp EIT assess a deployable solar project?

Sharp EIT reviews site access, available deployment area, current diesel or grid reliance, energy usage, load requirements, project duration, redeployment needs and potential battery, diesel or grid integration before recommending a solution.

Does Sharp EIT provide installation and support?

Sharp EIT can assess the site, energy requirements and hybrid power needs and coordinate the appropriate deployable solar solution. Installation support, operator training, replacement parts and technical support are available through the technology and service network, subject to the final project scope.
